Family Trees and Family History Research

Curious about your ancestors? Maybe you’ve hit a brick wall with part of your family tree and can’t seem to go any further back.

That’s where Finding Family Stories comes in. I can help you grow your family tree, one generation at a time—starting with you and working backward.

Depending on where your family lived and what records exist, it’s often possible to trace four to seven generations. When records are available, I will create a pedigree chart showing names, dates, and places of birth, marriage, and death for your direct ancestors. A six-generation chart usually takes around 30–40 hours of research and can be printed on A4 or A3 paper. You’ll also get a digital copy at no extra cost.

A family tree focuses on names and dates, but family history research goes deeper. It paints a fuller picture by including siblings, cousins, aunts, and uncles, and can uncover stories about immigration, education, land ownership, military service, or even criminal records. By studying documents like census records, I can help bring your ancestors’ lives into context. A detailed family history report is the perfect companion to your family tree.

Get in touch to find out how I can help you create your family tree, a full family history report, or both.

Oral Histories and Family Narratives

Want to keep your family’s stories alive for future generations? Or maybe your group or organisation is celebrating a big milestone and want to include personal stories in the celebrations?

Finding Family Stories can help. I’ll sit down with you—or the person being interviewed—in a relaxed, private setting to record those special memories. These recordings can then be turned into a personalised booklet to treasure and share.

When combined with family history research and a family tree, these stories and interviews make meaningful, one-of-a-kind gifts for loved ones, or a beautiful way to reflect on your own life journey.

Finding Family Stories proudly supports the goals and values of Oral History Victoria.
